Expert Dog Training Services in Tampa, Florida

Behavior Modification

Behavioral problems can be one of the biggest challenges to dog ownership.  Sometimes certain behaviors are not addressed properly while a puppy and turn into bigger issues later in life. Other times a trauma or lifestyle change can cause instability, or their behavior changes with age- (as they mature their perspective changes) and sometimes (just like us humans) they are just born that way.  No matter the origin, behaviors can be changed, redirected and/or controlled.

Aggressive Dog Training in Tampa Area

Aggression-

These behaviors typically rear it's ugly head around 9 months-2 years-age of maturity.

  1.  Possessive Aggression-This could be food, toy, their favorite human or piece of furniture etc
  2. Fear Aggression- When dogs are fearful they will have the fight or flight mentality- this form of aggression can be very unpredictable and lead to the most dangerous situations.
  3. Territorial Aggression- This is usually a dog protecting it's home, property and/or their human.
  4. Dominance Aggression- This is typically a dog trying to control their environment using their only known means of communication: growling, barking, snapping etc

All of these aggressive  behaviors WILL snowball if not addressed. Once the dog realizes what behavior gets them what they want, they will continue to do that in other areas and will intensify their response when necessary.

Anxiety Behavior Modification in Tampa Area

Anxiety

Anxious Behavior is common with any dog but most common with the high energy or working breeds.  Common Anxiety issues:

  1. Fireworks/Thunderstorms- This is probably the most common and easiest form of anxiety to address.  It just take time and consistency but can be done!
  2. Separation Anxiety-Dogs are pack animals, they want their pack(humans included) to stay together. By displaying destructive behavior, they get gratification when their human returns. It's imperative for the dogs to learn how to be comfortable and confident when their family is away.
  3. Going to the Veterinarian- Who likes going to the doctor? But it's  necessary and can be done without fear or anxiety.

If not addressed, these behaviors will lead to more issues over time. We have seen dogs jump through windows, chew through doors or walls, chew, eat or destroy furniture or random items around the house, lick, drool, bark or chew excessively, as well as urinate, vomit or defecate all over house or car.  Your dog needs to experience these situations and get through them without trauma to resolve this behavior.
